Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring in acidic, moist, well-drained soil with afternoon shade protection. Pink Rosebay (Rhododendron maximum) is the native rosebay rhododendron of the eastern United States with large, leathery leaves and soft pink flowers in midsummer — blooming later than most rhododendrons. Amend soil with peat if needed. Set root ball at or just above grade, mulch deeply, and water well.

Care Tips

Remove spent flower clusters after bloom. Feed with an acid fertilizer in early spring. Keep soil consistently moist. This native rhododendron is naturally adapted to woodland conditions and is exceptionally cold-hardy and long-lived when properly sited. The large, evergreen leaves provide bold year-round texture. Replenish mulch annually. An outstanding native rhododendron for large-scale woodland garden settings.
