Moonlight False Climbing Hydrangea

Plant in spring or fall near a sturdy support — a wall, fence, or large trellis. False climbing hydrangea needs something solid to attach to. Dig a generous planting hole, incorporate compost, and water well. Mulch around the base to retain moisture. It is slow to establish and may show little growth for the first two to three years — patience is essential.

Once established, false climbing hydrangea becomes vigorous and self-clinging. The lacy, flat-topped flower clusters in summer are beautiful. Prune in spring to remove any dead wood and to keep the plant within bounds — it can eventually cover a large area. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer in spring. Keep soil consistently moist. An outstanding, long-lived climber for shaded walls and structures.
