Mellow Yellow Spiraea

Plant in spring or fall in average, well-drained soil, spacing 3–4 feet apart. Mellow Yellow is a summer-blooming spirea with warm, golden-yellow foliage that provides bold color all season, plus clusters of pink flowers in summer. The yellow foliage is most vivid in spring and fall. It adapts to average conditions without special preparation. Water well at planting and mulch lightly.

Prune in early spring before new growth begins, cutting stems back by one-third to encourage vigorous new foliage with the best color. This summer-blooming spirea (Group 2 spiraeas) should be pruned in late winter or early spring, not immediately after bloom. The combination of golden foliage and pink flowers is cheerful and distinctive. Fertilize lightly in spring. Very easy and reliable. No heavy fertilizing is needed.
