Royal Purple Lilac

Plant in spring or fall in well-drained, near-neutral to slightly alkaline soil, spacing 8–12 feet apart. Royal Purple is a classic common lilac with large, richly colored, deep purple flower clusters and an exceptionally strong, classic fragrance. Very cold hardy and adaptable to average garden conditions. Water well at planting and mulch lightly. Choose a sunny site with good air circulation.

Prune right after flowering and remove spent clusters promptly to encourage next year's buds. Fertilize lightly in spring. If the soil is acidic, a light application of garden lime can improve performance and flower quality. Lilacs are exceptionally long-lived when properly sited. Royal Purple's deep, richly saturated flower color and powerful fragrance make it a classic choice for the late spring garden.
