Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in acidic, well-drained soil, spacing 4–6 feet apart. Blueray is a mid-season highbush blueberry with large, sweet, firm berries and exceptional flavor. Acidic soil pH 4.5–5.5 is essential — test and amend if needed. Mulch generously with wood chips to maintain acidity and moisture. Plant two or more varieties for best cross-pollination and berry production.

Care Tips

Prune in late winter by removing the oldest canes, weak growth, and crossing branches. Fertilize with an acid fertilizer in spring and early summer. Water consistently during fruit development. Blueray is considered one of the best-flavored mid-season highbush blueberries. Birds love the berries — netting or other protection may be needed. The attractive fall foliage adds a second season of ornamental interest.
