Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, moist to dry, well-drained soil. Highly adaptable to clay, shade, and dry conditions once established. Space 8–12 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is quite drought tolerant and adaptable to a wide range of challenging conditions. Little pruning is needed- remove dead or crossing branches in early spring. Fertilize lightly in spring if desired. The creamy white flower clusters in spring, blue-black berries loved by birds in fall, and brilliant red-purple fall foliage make this a superb four-season native shrub. Largely pest- and disease-free.
