Plant in average, well-drained soil. Space 4–5 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Water regularly after planting; once established it tolerates moderate drought. Prune by removing one-third of the oldest canes at the base immediately after the main spring flowering flush. Fertilize lightly in early spring. Largely pest-free. Very Fine Wine® is a compact, dense weigela with rich, burgundy-wine foliage that holds its deep color consistently through the season. The bright pink tubular flowers in spring create vivid contrast. Attractive to hummingbirds. An excellent, well-behaved wine-foliaged weigela for mixed borders.
