Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, fertile soil. Provide a very sturdy support structure. Space 10–15 feet apart or train over a pergola or arbor. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly the first two seasons. Once established it tolerates moderate drought. Amethyst Falls is a compact American wisteria that blooms on new wood- far less invasive than Asian species and reliably reblooming. Prune in late winter to control size and shape, and again lightly in midsummer. Fertilize lightly- excess nitrogen promotes foliage at the expense of flowers. The fragrant, violet-blue flower clusters are produced in spring and again in summer. An excellent, manageable alternative to Asian wisterias.
