Spartan Juniper

Plant in spring or fall in well-drained soil in full sun, spacing 3–4 feet apart. Spartan is a narrow, columnar Chinese juniper with dense, rich green foliage and a strongly upright habit that makes it ideal for formal accents, hedges, and screens in limited spaces. Very adaptable to a range of soils including dry and rocky conditions. Dig the planting hole to the same depth as the root ball and water well.

Minimal pruning is needed to maintain the naturally columnar form. Light shearing in late spring can maintain a more formal hedge appearance if desired. Very drought tolerant once established. No regular fertilizing needed in average soils. Spartan is one of the most widely planted upright junipers for formal garden use — cold hardy, adaptable, and consistently reliable as a columnar accent or screening plant. Deer resistant in most areas.
