Abiqua Drinking Gourd Hosta

Plant in spring or fall in moist, humus-rich soil in partial to full shade, spacing 30–36 inches apart. Abiqua Drinking Gourd is a large, dramatic hosta with enormous, heavily cupped, puckered, blue-green leaves that form deep cups — giving it its whimsical name. The heavily textured, cupped leaves are extraordinarily ornamental. Incorporate compost into the planting area and water well. Mulch generously.

Keep soil consistently moist. Remove tattered or slug-damaged leaves. Divide every four to five years in spring only if the clump becomes overcrowded — large hostas are best left undisturbed to develop into magnificent specimens. Fertilize lightly in spring.
