Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil amended with generous compost. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Space 10–15 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 3–4 inches deep, keeping mulch away from the trunk.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons. Once established it tolerates moderate drought. Little pruning is needed- remove dead or crossing branches in late spring after flowering. Jane blooms later than many magnolias, reducing the risk of frost damage to the flower buds. Fertilize lightly in spring with an acid fertilizer. The large, tulip-shaped, deep pink-purple flowers are stunning in mid-spring. A superb small tree for residential gardens.
