Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Excellent drainage is essential.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is highly drought tolerant. Cut back dead stems in early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. No fertilization needed. Largely pest-free. Midnight Velvet has deep, rich, velvety burgundy-chocolate foliage that is striking all season long. The warm, rosy-red flower heads in late summer contrast beautifully with the dark foliage, creating a rich, moody color combination in the late border. The seed heads persist attractively through winter.
