Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, acidic soil (pH 4.0–5.0). Space 4–5 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 3–4 inches deep, keeping mulch away from the crown. Plant with another variety for best fruit production.

Care Tips

Water deeply and consistently throughout the growing season- blueberries have very shallow roots that require reliable moisture. Prune out the oldest, thickest canes at the base in late winter each year to encourage productive new growth. Fertilize in early and late spring with an acid fertilizer. Never add lime. Blue Jay produces large, flavorful berries in midseason and has good cold hardiness. Net at ripening to protect from birds.
