Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to moist, well-drained to wet soil. Highly adaptable to clay, shade, and a wide range of conditions. Space 10–15 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is highly adaptable to a very wide range of conditions including dry shade, clay, and wet soils. Little pruning is needed; remove dead or crossing branches in early spring. Fertilize lightly in spring if desired. The white flower clusters in spring, blue-black berries in fall loved by birds, and excellent burgundy fall foliage make this a superb four-season native large shrub. One of the most adaptable and underused native viburnums available. Largely pest-free.
