Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 12–15 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Good drainage is essential — alliums dislike wet soil.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Deadhead spent flower heads to prevent self-seeding, or leave them for ornamental interest. The foliage may begin to die back by midsummer, which is normal — plant perennials nearby to fill the gap. Cut back foliage after it yellows naturally. Fertilize lightly in spring. Largely pest-free and deer resistant. Summer Beauty produces vivid, rosy-pink, globe-shaped flower heads over a long bloom season and is outstanding for pollinators, especially bees and butterflies. The foliage remains attractive through the bloom period, unlike most alliums. A reliable, long-blooming ornamental onion.
