Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant bulbs in fall, 4–6 inches deep in well-drained, fertile soil. Space 6–8 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Good drainage is essential- bulbs will rot in wet soil.

Care Tips

Water regularly during spring growth and bloom. Allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it- the leaves fuel the bulb for the following year. The large, round, deep purple flower heads are exceptionally striking in late spring. Allow dried heads to remain on the plant for ornamental effect through summer. Divide crowded clumps every 3–4 years in fall. Fertilize lightly in early spring as growth begins. Largely pest-free and deer resistant.
