Silvermound Wormwood

Plant in spring, spacing 18–24 inches apart in average, well-drained to dry soil. Silvermound artemisia is grown for its extraordinary, mounded, silver-white foliage with a soft, feathery texture. It thrives in lean conditions — rich or wet soils cause it to open up and flop in the center. No soil amendment is needed. Water moderately after planting and reduce as the plant establishes.

Cut plants back hard to 4–6 inches in midsummer if the mound opens up and flops — this is normal in hot, humid weather. Cutting back produces fresh, compact new growth by fall. No fertilizing is needed. The silver, feathery foliage is outstanding as a foil for brightly colored companions throughout the season. Drought tolerant once established. An excellent contrast plant for hot, sunny borders.
