Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall as a groundcover in partially shaded or shaded areas. Barren strawberry adapts to average, well-drained soils and is quite easy to establish. Space plants about 12 inches apart and water well after planting. A light mulch helps retain moisture while the plants spread to fill in bare areas. It tolerates dry shade better than many groundcovers.

Care Tips

Very little maintenance is required once established. The plants spread gradually by stolons to form a dense carpet. No regular pruning is needed, though you can shear lightly in early spring to tidy up any winter-damaged foliage. No fertilizing is needed in average soils. A reliable, low-care solution for difficult shaded spots under trees.
