Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained to wet soil. Highly adaptable to clay and periodically flooded conditions. Space 15–25 feet apart depending on use. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 3–4 inches deep, keeping mulch well away from the trunk.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons while establishing- Heritage performs best with consistent moisture and actually prefers moist conditions. Once established it tolerates drought better than most river birches. Little pruning is needed. Remove any dead branches in late summer; avoid pruning in spring when sap is actively flowing. Largely resistant to the bronze birch borer that affects white-barked birches. The exfoliating, salmon-pink to cinnamon-brown bark is the main ornamental attraction year-round.
