Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic to average soil. Space 6–8 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Care Tips

Water consistently after planting; once established it tolerates moderate drought and partial shade. Little pruning is needed- remove dead or crossing branches in early spring. Sweetshrub spreads by suckering to form a colony over time- remove suckers to maintain a more compact form. Fertilize lightly in spring. The burgundy-red, wine-scented flowers are produced in abundance and carry an intensely fragrant, fruity-spicy fragrance. Aphrodite is a particularly free-flowering and fragrant selection. Largely pest-free and deer resistant.
