Planting Tips

Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. Set the crown 2–3 inches below the soil surface. Provide a trellis or support. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch to keep the root zone cool.

Care Tips

Water deeply and consistently throughout the growing season. Hyde Hall is typically a Group 3 clematis- cut back hard to 12–18 inches from the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. This hard annual pruning is essential as it blooms on new wood each season. Feed with a balanced fertilizer in spring after cutting back and again in midsummer. The large, open, pale blue flowers are produced in abundance on vigorous new growth from midsummer through fall.
