Planting Tips

Plant in average, well-drained soil. Space 4–5 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is quite drought tolerant and adaptable. Prune out one-third of the oldest canes at the base each spring to encourage vigorous new growth with the best foliage color. Fertilize lightly in spring. The dark, near-black foliage of this selection is unusually rich and dramatic, providing outstanding contrast in mixed borders. The tubular, orange-red flowers are attractive to hummingbirds, and the berries in fall provide food for birds. Largely pest-free.
