Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Space 8–12 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep, keeping mulch away from the trunk. A male pollinator such as Blue Prince is needed for berry production.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons; once established it tolerates moderate drought. Little pruning is needed. Fertilize lightly in spring. Blue Princess is one of the most popular female evergreen hollies, producing abundant, vivid red berries that persist through winter and are outstanding for birds. The glossy, dark blue-green, spiny evergreen foliage is attractive year-round. Monitor for scale insects. Largely otherwise pest-free. One of the best evergreen hollies for cold climates.
