Planting Tips

Plant with rhizomes just at the soil surface in moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch around the base.

Care Tips

Water deeply and consistently- Japanese iris prefers moist to wet conditions and will decline in dry soil. Avoid alkaline soil and water. The variegated foliage provides excellent ornamental interest even when the plant is not in bloom. Allow foliage to grow through summer. Cut back in late fall. Divide every 3–4 years in late summer. Fertilize lightly in spring with an acid fertilizer. Largely pest-free.
