Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 12–18 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Penstemon prefers lean conditions- avoid rich or consistently wet soils.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Deadhead spent flower spikes to encourage a second flush of bloom. Cut back to the basal foliage rosette in late fall. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Largely pest-free and deer resistant. Excellent for pollinators, especially bumblebees. The deep burgundy-red tubular flowers are produced over a long season and combine beautifully with silver and chartreuse companions.
