Victoria Rhubarb

Plant in spring in fertile, well-drained to average soil, spacing 3–4 feet apart. Victoria is a classic, widely grown rhubarb variety with thick, red stalks and excellent flavor. Incorporate generous amounts of compost into a large planting area. Set the crown with the top bud at or just below soil level. Water well and mulch generously. Choose a permanent site — rhubarb is very long-lived.

Do not harvest any stalks in the first year — allow the plant to establish fully. In the second year, harvest lightly. From the third year onward, harvest stalks freely by pulling and twisting. Remove and compost flower stalks promptly — allowing them to develop weakens the plant. Fertilize in spring and after harvest with a balanced fertilizer. Only the stalks are edible — the leaves are toxic. A long-lived, productive, and rewarding garden plant.
