Red Flower Carpet® opens deep red with bright yellow stamens showing at the center, and the color holds rather than fading toward pink as the flowers age. Rosa Flower Carpet Red grows 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide in full sun, hardy from Zone 5 through Zone 8.
Bloom runs from late spring through fall, continuous and without deadheading. The open flower form lets bees reach the pollen.
The foliage is glossy and disease resistant, holding through humid summers without a spray program.
Flower Carpet roses were bred in Germany for landscape performance rather than cut-flower form: a low spreading habit, continuous bloom, and enough disease resistance to go without spraying. They are self-cleaning, so no deadheading, and they fill in to the ground rather than going bare at the base.
Full sun gives the heaviest bloom, and it tolerates heat, drought, and poor soil once established. Cut back by about a third in early spring. Shipped on its own roots.
