Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall, spacing 12–18 inches apart. Little Goldstar is a compact, dwarf black-eyed Susan that stays much shorter and bushier than the standard species, making it ideal for the front of borders, containers, and small garden spaces. It adapts to average to lean, well-drained soils without special preparation. Water regularly through the first growing season.

Care Tips

Deadhead spent blooms for continuous flowering, or leave seed heads for birds. Divide every three to four years in spring to maintain vigor. No heavy fertilizing needed. The compact habit of Little Goldstar means the plants stay tidy without needing staking. The cheerful yellow flowers with dark centers bloom from midsummer through fall and are outstanding for cutting. An important nectar source for bees and butterflies.
