Plant in spring or fall in well-drained soil, spacing 2–3 feet apart. Fire Chief is a globe arborvitae with a remarkable season-long foliage color show — the tips are brilliant orange-red in spring, age to gold, then green in summer, and return to fire-orange-red in fall and winter. It maintains a naturally rounded form with minimal pruning. Dig the planting hole to the same depth as the root ball and water well.
