Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring, spacing 12–18 inches apart in average, well-drained soil. Calamint is a wonderfully easy plant that thrives in lean to average soils — overly rich or consistently wet soils can actually cause it to become floppy. Water regularly for the first few weeks after planting, then reduce as it becomes established. A light mulch helps through the first season.

Care Tips

Cut plants back to the ground in late fall or early spring to make way for fresh new growth. Calamint is drought tolerant once established and requires minimal watering. No regular fertilizing is needed — lean conditions keep it compact and floriferous. The tiny white flowers are a magnet for bees and butterflies from midsummer through fall.
