Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in moist to wet, well-drained, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep to retain moisture.

Care Tips

Consistent moisture is the most critical care requirement- astilbe will brown and decline quickly in dry soil. Water deeply and regularly throughout the growing season. Fertilize in spring and again after flowering with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Divide clumps every 3–4 years in spring or fall when the center begins to die out. Deadhead spent plumes or leave them as they dry to an attractive tan color for winter interest.
