Plant in average, well-drained soil. Space 12–15 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Avoid heavy, rich, or consistently wet soils.

Water regularly the first season; quite drought tolerant once established. Deadhead spent flowers to keep the plant in continuous bloom. Cut back by one-third after the main summer flush to encourage a fresh round of blooms in late summer and fall. Divide every 2–3 years in spring. Largely pest-free. The deep wine-red flowers with yellow centers are a striking color combination for sunny borders and container plantings.
