Pairs well with

Daybreak opens yellow-orange with a red center, a bicolor that reads warm from a distance. Coreopsis Li'l Bang 'Daybreak' grows 6 to 10 inches tall and 10 to 18 inches wide in full sun, hardy from Zone 5 through Zone 9.

Bloom runs continuously from early summer into fall without deadheading, and the flowers cover the plant rather than appearing only at the tips.

This one spreads wider than it grows tall, which makes it useful as a low edging or a small-scale groundcover.

Coreopsis wants full sun and well-drained soil, and it handles drought and moderate road salt once established. Rich or wet ground shortens its life, and winter wet is the usual cause of failure. Deer leave it alone.

Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average, well-drained soil. Space 12–15 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Lean to average soil is ideal- rich, wet soil promotes weak growth and reduces bloom.

Care Tips

Water regularly the first season; drought tolerant once established. Deadhead consistently for continuous bloom throughout the season. Cut back by one-third after the main flush to encourage fresh growth and more flowers. Divide every 2–3 years in spring to maintain vigor. Virtually pest- and disease-free. A cheerful, long-blooming front-of-border perennial that thrives with minimal care.
