Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 12–15 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Good drainage is essential- dianthus will not survive in wet, poorly drained conditions, especially in winter.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; reduce once established as these plants prefer somewhat drier conditions. Shear back by about one-third immediately after the first bloom flush to encourage a second round of flowering and maintain a compact habit. Fertilize very lightly in early spring. Avoid rich soils and excess fertilization. Deer resistant and largely pest-free. The spice-scented flowers are a delightful bonus throughout the long bloom season.
