Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 12–15 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Good drainage is essential- dianthus will not tolerate wet or poorly drained soil, especially in winter.

Water regularly after planting; reduce once established as dianthus prefers somewhat drier conditions. Shear back by about one-third immediately after the first bloom flush to encourage a second round of flowering and maintain a compact, tidy habit. Feed very lightly with a balanced fertilizer in early spring. Avoid heavy soils or over-fertilizing. Deer resistant and largely pest-free. The vivid, eye-catching flower color is outstanding for the front of a sunny border.
