Planting Tips

Plant with the eyes (pink buds on the roots) no more than 1–2 inches below the soil surface- planting too deep is the most common reason peonies fail to bloom. Choose a permanent location in fertile, well-drained soil amended with compost. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly, especially during spring growth and bloom. Stake plants before stems become top-heavy if needed. Deadhead spent flowers and remove all foliage in late fall to reduce disease pressure. Do not cut foliage back until it has died down naturally- the leaves fuel the roots for next year's blooms. Fertilize lightly in spring as growth begins and again after flowering. Peonies are long-lived and resent being moved- choose their location carefully.
