Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained to dry soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. This native grass thrives in lean, dry conditions where little else grows well.

Care Tips

Water regularly the first season; once established it is highly drought tolerant. Cut back to a few inches in early spring before new growth begins. No fertilization needed- lean soil produces the best growth. Largely pest-free. Broomsedge is a native broom grass that turns vivid coppery-orange and rust-brown in fall and winter- the warm, glowing fall color is one of the most beautiful of any native grass. Excellent for dry, open meadow plantings and naturalistic landscapes.
