Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained to dry soil. Space 12–18 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. This native prairie grass thrives in lean, dry conditions.

Care Tips

Water regularly the first season; once established it is highly drought tolerant. Cut back to a few inches in early spring before new growth begins. No fertilization needed. Largely pest-free. Side oats grama is the state grass of Texas and is native across much of North America. The distinctive seed heads hang in a single row along one side of the stem- a unique and ornamental character. Excellent for dry meadow plantings, pollinator gardens, and naturalistic landscapes.
