Planting Tips

Plant in fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Set the crown 2–3 inches below the soil surface to help protect against clematis wilt. Provide a sturdy trellis, fence, or support structure. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch to keep the root zone cool.

Care Tips

Water deeply and consistently throughout the growing season. This is a Group 3 clematis- cut it back hard to 12–18 inches from the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. This hard pruning is essential for good bloom, as Jackmanii flowers on new wood each year. Feed with a balanced fertilizer in spring after cutting back and again in midsummer. Watch for clematis wilt- if stems suddenly collapse, cut back to healthy tissue immediately.
