Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant tubers in spring after the last frost, spacing 18–24 inches apart in fertile, well-drained soil. Dig holes 6–8 inches deep and set tubers horizontally. Water well after planting. Peruvian lily produces excellent long-lasting cut flowers and blooms reliably with minimal care. In warmer climates it is perennial; in colder areas, tubers should be dug and stored after frost kills the foliage.

Care Tips

Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering throughout the season. When cutting flowers for arrangements, pull — rather than cut — the stems from the base, which stimulates new growth. In colder climates, dig tubers after the first frost and store in barely moist peat in a cool, frost-free location over winter. Fertilize in spring with a balanced fertilizer. Water regularly during the growing season.
