Lucifer Montbretia

Plant corms 3–4 inches deep in well-drained, fertile soil amended with compost. Space 4–6 inches apart for a bold mass effect. Water thoroughly after planting.

Water regularly throughout the growing season, especially during active growth and bloom. Deadhead spent flower stems to keep the planting tidy. In colder climates, mulch heavily after the ground freezes to protect corms through winter, or dig and store corms in a cool, frost-free location. Divide clumps every 3–4 years when they become overcrowded and bloom quality declines. The vivid scarlet-red flowers on arching stems are outstanding for cutting and are a magnet for hummingbirds.
