Prince of Orange Montbretia

Plant corms 3–4 inches deep in well-drained, fertile soil amended with compost. Space 4–6 inches apart for a showy mass effect. Water thoroughly after planting.

Water regularly throughout the growing season. Deadhead spent flower stems to keep the planting tidy. In colder climates, mulch heavily after the ground freezes to protect corms, or dig and store corms in a cool, frost-free location over winter. Divide clumps every 3–4 years when overcrowding causes a decline in bloom quality. The bright orange-red flowers on arching stems are vivid and long-lasting, and very attractive to hummingbirds.
