Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average, well-drained soil. Tolerates clay, sandy, and lean soils well. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly the first season; once established this native coneflower is highly drought tolerant and requires very little supplemental watering. Deadhead to prolong bloom, or leave seed heads through winter to feed birds. Cut to the ground in late fall or late winter. Divide every 4–5 years in spring if desired, though established clumps can be left undisturbed for many years. Virtually pest- and disease-free. An excellent native wildflower for prairies, meadows, and low-maintenance sunny borders.
