Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist to wet, average to fertile soil. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch around the base.

Care Tips

Water consistently and generously- Joe Pye weed naturally grows in moist meadows and along stream banks. Pinch stem tips in late spring to early summer to encourage a bushier, more compact plant with more flower heads. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. The large, dusty-pink flower domes in late summer are irresistible to butterflies, particularly monarchs. The spotted purple stem markings distinguish this species from related varieties. Largely pest-free.
