Plant in moist to wet, average to fertile soil. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch around the base.

Water consistently and generously- this native species thrives with reliable moisture in moist meadows and woodland edges. Pinch stem tips in late spring to encourage a bushier, more compact plant. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. The fragrant, vanilla-scented, dusty-pink flower clusters in late summer are outstanding for monarchs, swallowtails, and other butterflies. One of the most sweetly fragrant native perennials available. Largely pest-free.
