Victoria Falls Bearded Iris

Plant rhizomes in late summer to fall in well-drained soil in full sun. Bearded iris must be planted at the correct depth — the rhizome should sit at or just at soil level with the top exposed to sun. Amend soil with compost and ensure excellent drainage. Space rhizomes 12–18 inches apart. Water well after planting and keep soil dry in summer after blooming.

Divide every three to four years in late summer by lifting clumps, discarding old central sections, and replanting healthy outer rhizomes. Trim fan of leaves back by one-half at planting. Remove spent flower stalks after bloom. Fertilize in early spring with a low-nitrogen fertilizer. Keep rhizomes exposed to sun — buried rhizomes lead to rot. Victoria Falls produces large, striking flowers in shades of blue and white in late spring.
