Planting Tips

Plant with rhizomes at or just below the soil surface in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly during spring growth and bloom. Allow foliage to continue growing through summer after bloom to fuel the rhizomes for next year. Cut back foliage in late fall. Divide every 3–4 years in late summer to maintain vigor and bloom quality. Fertilize lightly in early spring. Tolerates wet and clay soils better than bearded iris. Largely pest-free. The soft blue flowers with white and yellow markings are classic and elegant in the late spring garden.
