Chandelier Lupine

Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil amended with compost. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch around the base. Choose a permanent spot- lupines have taproots and resent being moved.

Water consistently throughout the growing season. Deadhead spent flower spikes promptly to encourage a second flush of bloom and extend the plant's life- lupines that are allowed to go fully to seed tend to decline more quickly. Lupines are short-lived perennials, typically lasting 2–4 years; allow some self-sowing to maintain a colony. Watch for aphids on flower spikes. Mulch to keep roots cool. Largely slug-susceptible in cool, wet conditions.
