Planting Tips

Plant in fall (ideally) or early spring in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun, spacing 3–4 feet apart. Paula Fay is a beautiful single-flowered hybrid peony with large, warm pink flowers that open earlier than most peonies, extending the peony season. Plant with the eyes (buds) no more than 1–2 inches below soil level — planting too deep prevents flowering. Incorporate compost generously.

Care Tips

Stake plants if needed to support the large flowers. Remove spent blooms. Cut foliage to the ground in fall after frost kills it. Do not divide peonies unless necessary — they resent disturbance and take several years to recover after dividing. Fertilize in early spring and after flowering with a balanced fertilizer. Water during dry spells. Paula Fay's single flowers and early bloom time make it a distinctive and valuable peony variety.
