Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in average, well-drained to dry soil, spacing 18–24 inches apart. Caradonna is a dramatic salvia variety with deep violet flowers on distinctive dark, almost black stems — a striking combination. It is drought tolerant and thrives in lean conditions. No special soil preparation is needed. Water moderately after planting and reduce as the plant establishes.

Care Tips

Cut back by about one-half after the first bloom flush to encourage additional flowering periods. The dark, nearly black stems are an ornamental feature even before and after bloom. Very drought tolerant once established. No heavy fertilizing is needed. The dark-stemmed habit makes Caradonna one of the most distinctive salvias — outstanding for cutting as well as garden display. Highly attractive to bees and butterflies.
